A joint press release from Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Crossville Police Department, and Cumberland County Schools:
Cumberland County, TN — Earlier today, Cumberland County Schools received information indicating that a student may have been in possession of a firearm on school property at Stone Memorial High School.
For precautionary reasons and in accordance with established safety protocols, Stone Memorial High School was immediately placed on a soft lockdown while the report was thoroughly investigated. During a soft lockdown, students and staff remain inside classrooms and normal activities are limited while administrators and law enforcement assess the situation.
A comprehensive investigation was conducted, including coordination with the Threat Response Task Force which includes law enforcement representatives from Crossville Police Department, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, and the Department of Homeland Security. No firearms were located, and no credible information was discovered to indicate that a weapon was ever present on campus. Students were never in any type of danger.
The safety and security of our students and employees remain our highest priority. Cumberland County Schools takes all reports seriously and will continue to respond swiftly and decisively to ensure a safe learning environment.
