Director of Schools Releases Results Of Substance Abuse Survey

The Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services conducts a biennial school-based survey assessing the use of alcohol, drug, and tobacco use and prescription drugs among 8th-, 10th-, and 12th-grade public school students. Results for Cumberland County were announced during the monthly meeting of the Cumberland County Board of Education on Thursday. Among 12th graders surveyed, 7 percent report using prescription drugs not prescribed to them; 45.6 percent say they have had one or more alcoholic beverages; 23.6 percent report smoking; 42.1 percent say they have used a vaping device and 23.2 percent report using marijuana.
