Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Press Release:
On December 5, 2022, Putnam County Sheriff ‘s Office received a True Bill from the Putnam County Criminal Court Grand Jury for 28-year -old Justin Dixon. Dixon is being charged with 1 count of Felony Murder and 1 count of Aggravated Child Abuse.
Tuesday, December 6, 2022, Dixon was arrested in Hamilton County on the charges listed. Dixon is scheduled to be in court on January 23, 2023 and is on hold with no bond.
Detective Sergeant Brian Haworth responded to the call on May 4, 2022, to the Copeland residence on Dodson Branch Hwy, regarding 2 -year-old Atlas Copeland who was found unconscious when Deputies arrived. Atlas Copeland was transported to Vanderbilt Hospital to the Care Team Unit, but later died the next morning from injuries sustained from blunt force trauma.
Justin Dixon was the boyfriend of Scie Copeland, the mother of Atlas. Dixon was the caregiver/babysitter of Atlas while the mother was at work on May 4.
