Former Cumberland Co. Solid Waste Director, Mike Harvel, Convicted Of 9 Counts Civil Rights Violations

Former Cumberland County Solid Waste Director Mike Harvel has been convicted of  9 counts of civil rights violations.  Thirteen woman testified against the 61-year-old Harvel.  The violations include kidnapping and sexually assaulting women that he supervised between 2014 and 2018.  Harvel faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.  A sentencing date for Harvel has not yet been set by the court.

In a separate civil action that took place in 2021, the Department of Justice settled a sexual harassment lawsuit against Cumberland County for $1.1 million. (Photo courtesy WSMV)
