A suspect wanted in a Valentine’s Day shooting in Sweetwater, Tennessee that killed one and injured four others, including a toddler, has been captured. On Wednesday, February 15, 2023 around 9:45pm the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office along with the US Marshal’s Smokey Mountain Fugitive Task Force apprehended suspect 26-year-old Liu Huerta. He’s currently being held at the Monroe County Justice Center and is facing three counts of attempted first degree murder, attempted aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and the use of firearm during a dangerous felony. WVLT reports that in an earlier update, officials with the Madisonville Police Department said they had another suspect in custody but did not identify them. Authorities have not revealed the circumstances surrounding the shooting, nor have they released the names of the victims or the conditions of the survivors. WVLT News spoke to Logan Sloan who said the little girl injured in the shooting was 2-year-old Alayna Butts. Sloan, who is Alayna’s uncle, said she is in a coma with severe brain damage.
