The Crossville/Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency and the National Weather Service Office in Nashville has conducted an in-depth assessment of Sunday’s storm damage and has determined it was caused by an EF-1 Tornado with 95 MPH winds and was documented to be 50 yards wide. The tornado touched down just west of Hwy. 70 N and traveled 1.7 miles before lifting in the area of the Executive Inn on Hwy 127 N.
Crews reported that one residential structure was demolished on Hwy. 70 N., a barn was destroyed, and a commercial building in the area of Hwy 127 N. sustained heavy roof damage.
There were no injuries or fatalities reported in this storm event.
While spring tornado season officially ended on May 31, the Crossville/Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency says this event shows how important it is to be mindful of weather conditions all year long and to have multiple ways to receive notification of severe weather watches/warnings including a working NOAA Weather Radio and a phone app.
