Tennesseans can no longer order alcohol with their take-out restaurant meals. That privilege ended July 1. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the state allowed restaurants to sell mixed drinks to-go to help them stay afloat when sales slumped as people were discouraged from gathering in public places. Even after the masks came off, to-go alcohol sales continued to help restaurants recoup pandemic losses and keep workers employed. The argument in favor of doing away with to-go booze is the potential for under-age consumption. Others say taking away a convenience that adult patrons have enjoyed for three years will not stop minors from obtaining alcohol, but it will be a noticeable hit to employee paychecks. As of today, Davidson County is the only county in Tennessee that permits restaurants to serve to-go beer.
