Putnam County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call of trespassing on Dyer Long Road, where according to a Press Release, Deputies made contact with Anthony Ray Thomas who appeared to be under the influence.
Deputy Woods arrested Thomas and charged him with Public Intoxication.
While incarcerated, Corrections Deputies entered his cell with medical staff to provide care for a self-inflicted injury. Thomas became belligerent and began fighting with the deputies. Thomas spat in the face of one deputy, getting spit in his eye and in his mouth. As a result of the assault, the deputy had to seek medical attention and will be required to maintain ongoing checkups for the next year to test for any communicable diseases that may have been transmitted.
Detective Sergeant Adrienne McCurry obtained a warrant for Assault Against First Responder. Thomas has a bond of $2,248 and a court date set for August 7, 2023. (Photo courtesy PCSO)
