The old Bledsoe County Jail in Pikeville, Tennessee is up for sale. The jail was built in 1851 and was still housing inmates in 2007 when it was shut down after a state fire marshall inspection. At the time, it was the oldest operating jail in Tennessee. The two-story, 172-year-old jail on Frazier Street was put on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. Originally built for $1,500, Bledsoe County now wants a minimum bid of $300,000. According to the National Register of Historic Places, “the jail sits on a corner lot that is less than 1 acre.” For those wishing to buy the old Bledsoe County Jail, sealed bids must arrive at Bledsoe County Mayor Gregg Ridley’s office by August 21, 2023.
