At the request of Sheriff Wayne Potter, in cooperation with Morgan County Schools Director David Treece, and in coordination by Morgan County EMA Director Ethan Webb, a joint K-9 search and operation was conducted on 3 (three) Morgan County Schools Wednesday morning (11/8/2023). Multiple law enforcement agencies from several counties converged on Sunbright High School, Coalfield High School and the Morgan County Career and Technical Center with K-9 detection dogs and personnel to search the schools for contraband.
No K-9 alerts were detected on illegal narcotics. Some contraband in violation of school policy was found but no violations of state law were discovered, police say.
According to the press release, more Morgan County schools will soon be searched.
