It was a major weekend for both the Men’s and Women’s basketball teams at the University of Tennessee. #5 Tennessee hosted the #22 Ole Miss Rebels in front of a sold out crowd Saturday while the Lady Vols hosted border rival Kentucky on Sunday.

The 5th ranked Tennessee Volunteers opened up Southeastern Conference play Saturday hosting the undefeated 22nd ranked Ole Miss Rebels. Ole Miss went back to Oxford with a loss as the Vols left no doubt winning 90-64. Jonas Aidoo led the way with 24 points, followed by Zakai Zeigler with 17 points. Santiago Vescovi along with Jahmai Mashack both were in double-digit scoring. Jaemyn Brakefield led the Rebels with 22 points. #5 Tennessee takes on the other team in Magnolia State as UT travels to Mississippi State on Wednesday. Coverage can be heard on 102.5 WOW Country.

Sunday the Lady Vols were looking to keep momentum rolling in SEC play while hosting border rivals, Kentucky Wildcats. After going into halftime the Lady Vols were down 49-39 to Kentucky, Tennessee only allowed 20 points in the second half and rallied to an 87-69 win over big blue. Rickea Jackson and Jewel Spear led the scoring for UT with 27 points and 21 points respectively. Eniya Russell, Ajae Petty, and Maddie Scherr led Kentucky with scoring. The Lady Vols stay in Knoxville for their game on Wednesday as they host the Florida Gators. Coverage of that contest can be heard on MIX 99.3.
