After a week of weather delays the Cumberland County Commission met for their January session on Monday evening. Items approved included a resolution for the courthouse renovations that will also include a complete replacement of the HVAC system. The low bid was awarded to Upland Design Group in the amount of $2.9 million. Funding will come from a $2 million grant from House Speaker Cameron Sexton and Senator Paul Bailey, with the remainder coming out of debt service reserves. Structural damage to the building was discovered in 2022, rendering portions of it unsafe. The courthouse was built in 1905.
