Democratic Representative Gloria Johnson, of Knoxville, has introduced a bill that would raise the minimum wage to $20 an hour in Tennessee.
The bill HB2602, “As introduced, increases the hourly minimum wage to $20.00, or the federal minimum wage established pursuant to the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, whichever rate is greater.”
According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, Tennessee does not have a state minimum wage, however most employees are covered by the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour.
The bill is scheduled to go to the House Banking and Consumer Affairs Subcommittee on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.
It is not expected to pass.
