More than two dozen kayakers had to be rescued Monday night in Marion County after they set out during a wind advisory with gusts estimated to be 20 to 40 miles per hour. Officers with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency got the call for help around 8:30pm that 27 kayakers, including children, were stuck due to high winds on a bank near Nickajack Cave. A few kayakers ended up in the water and a small rescue boat from the Hale Town Fire Department capsized, however, there were no serious injuries. The TWRA was able to get everyone safely to shore.
