Rockwood Electric Utility reports that at approximately 10:45 pm Friday ( 5/24/2024) all customers fed from Rockwood Primary Substation lost power except for the Industrial Park. This included most of Rockwood, Highway 70 toward Midtown, and the Pine Orchard Area on the mountain. Automated switching was completed to restore power to a section of Rockwood, including REU’s main office. Crews responded to the substation and upon inspecting the main bus, found a very large snake on the buswork. After removing the snake and inspecting the remainder of the bus to ensure no additional damage, the substation was re-energized shortly before midnight and power restored to each section of town incrementally. Rockwood Electric Utility thanks their customers for their patience while their employees responded to the outage and worked safely to restore power. They apologize for any inconveniences.
In Franklin, Tennessee snakes have caused at least four power outages so far this month.
