Update 5/27/2024 10:36am: VEC says lightning hit the Crossville Substation power transformer. They believe they have found the damaged equipment and it should be less than an hour before power is restored to customers served by the Crossville Substation if no other problems are found.

VEC Manager Kevin Hembree says crews are currently doing an assessment and it appears that a lightning strike hit the main Crossville substation. No estimate at this time when power will be restored.
5/27/24 8:32am – VEC reports 50% of Cumberland County customers are out of power this morning (5/27/2024). VEC said the outages were caused by lightning and strong winds causing downed power lines. Crews are working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. In Cumberland 19100 customers without electricity. Fentress 715, Pickett 1369, Bledsoe 172, Bradley 1605, Polk 494 plus scattered outaged in several other counties with over 23,600 out of power at this time.
