Beginning July 1, GPS monitoring will be required for certain domestic violence offenders in Tennessee.
On Tuesday, Governor Bill Lee signed into law the Debbie and Marie Domestic Violence Protection Act. The law was named after mother and daughter Debbie Sisco and Marie Varsos, who were both fatally shot by Varsos’ estranged husband in 2021.
The offender will have to pay for the GPS device and wear it until a court deems they are no longer a threat to the victim or public safety.
Victims will be provided with a device that will notify them when the offender is close by.
