Police Say Burglary Investigation in Cookeville Leads to Recovered Stolen Property, Two Men Charged

A burglary investigation in Cookeville has reportedly led to the recovery of stolen property and charges against two men.

According to a press release, shortly after 8am Monday (6/3/2024), Cookeville Police responded to a burglary at the Sunoco Gas Station on Browns Mill Road.  The business showed signs of forced entry along with evidence of vandalism and theft. There was approximately $8,600 worth of damage and $11,000 in cash stolen.

Cookeville Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division quickly developed suspects they identified as 20-year-old Trenton Troupe and 43-year-old Mathew Norris, both of Cookeville. The men were located at the Suburban Studios hotel on Salem Road.

Police say a search of their room and vehicles revealed burglary tools, counterfeit money, and multiple stolen items including coins, identifications, documents, and multiple pieces of jewelry including several gold necklaces, diamond rings, and a Rolex watch all valued at approximately $27,000.  The items recovered are believed to have been stolen from Cookeville, Overton County, and Smithville areas.

Troupe was charged with Burglary, Theft of Property, and Vandalism and is being held at the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office on a $58,000 bond.

Norris was charged with Accessory After the Fact, Possession of Burglary Tools, and Theft of Property and was given a $28,000 bond.
