Putnam County Sheriff Eddie Farris has announced that Sgt. Matt Scott and Deputy Travis Williams have been presented with Meritorious Awards for an incident that occurred August 10th of this year. The Putnam County Commission also recognized the deputies for their heroic actions that day.
According to a press release, on August 10, 2024, Deputy Travis Williams was driving on 12th Street in Cookeville, Tennessee when he came upon a 3-year-old autistic child in the roadway who had been struck by a vehicle. Deputy Williams immediately began to administer CPR to the child for several minutes until other law enforcement and medical professionals arrived on the scene.
Sgt. Matt Scott arrived shortly on scene after Deputy Williams and immediately began to assist Deputy Williams in rendering medical aid while organizing other law enforcement and emergency services.
