Tennessee Valley Authority released a statement Sunday saying they are managing record amounts of water from the French Broad, Nolichucky, and Pigeon Rivers flowing into Douglas Dam, holding that water back to protect downstream areas like Knoxville, Lenoir City, and Chattanooga. In a controlled manner, TVA is releasing a record amount of water, over 450,000 gallons per second, using the dam’s generating turbines and spillway gates. Douglas Dam is a hydroelectric dam on the French Broad River in Sevier County and is one of TVA’s largest tributary dams. Officials say it is stable and secure.
