TDOT Regional Communications Officer Mark Nagi announced Saturday an update on efforts to open part of I-40 in Cocke County near the North Carolina state line that was washed out by Hurricane Helene.
Nagi said the roadway remains closed to westbound travelers up until mile marker 447 and eastbound traffic can go no further than mile marker 440. Over the next two weeks TDOT will be working to return traffic to I-40, one lane in each direction, between the Tennesse/North Carolina state line and mile marker 447/Hartford Road. All that traffic will be pushed over to the westbound lanes.
