On Wednesday (10/9/2024), Tennessee’s weather-related death toll rose to 17 after a 4th fatality was reported in Washington County.
The TBI is actively looking for 6 missing people but says that does not account for all the unaccounted individuals. Five people are still missing in Greene County and 1 in Cocke County.
Three more Tennessee counties have been approved for FEMA’s Public Assistance program. They are Claiborne, Grainger, and Sullivan counties.The program is now available to eligible jurisdictions and certain private, non-profit organizations in a total of 12 counties following significant flooding from Hurricane Helene that impacted Northeast Tennessee on September 26. This assistance is in addition to the Individual Assistance available for survivors in Carter, Cocke, Greene, Hamblen, Hawkins, Johnson, Unicoi, and Washington counties.
FEMA has so far approved more than $5.1 million for disaster assistance in Tennessee for over 900 households.
