After years of false starts and failed votes, a YMCA is now in Crossville’s future. The Sports Authority of Crossville, along with the Crossville City Council, closed on bonds to build the facility on Thursday morning with a groundbreaking ceremony held in the afternoon. Estimates for construction are around $38 million with a timeframe of 18 to 24 months. The site of the facility is located off Livingston Road behind the Main Street Church of Christ. The Crossville City Council formed the Sports Authority to address concerns of potential property tax hikes to fund the project. Under the Authority, revenue from property taxes cannot be used, thus making the venture entirely funded by sales tax and donations.
