The Cumberland County Commission in regular session on Monday, voted to appoint Karen Shanks to fill the seat of Third District Commissioner Rebecca Stone who announced her resignation in November. Shanks was elected by the commission after two rounds of voting. Initially, four candidates were seeking the appointment, Curt Boston, Craig Clark, Michael DiBiccaro and Karen Shanks. Boston, Clark and Shanks received nominations with Shanks and Clark tied for the lead in round one of voting. Shanks picked up 11 votes in the second round to earn the appointment. County Mayor Allen Foster tendered a special thanks to Rebecca Stone for serving the 3rd district, saying, “She has been an outstanding commissioner that studies and is informed of the issues she is voting on.” He also added his congratulations to Karen Shanks on her appointment to replace Stone.
