The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind you to stay vigilant against scams targeting taxpayers.
Recently, many individuals have received messages claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), stating:
“You are eligible to receive a $1,400 Economic Impact Payment. Please provide your accurate personal information. We will deposit the amount into your bank account or mail a paper check within 1 to 2 business days.”
These messages often include a suspicious link, such as “https://irs.tax-understanding.com,” and instruct you to reply with “Y” or to click on the link provided.
Remember, the IRS will NEVER ask for sensitive personal information via text, email, or unsolicited calls.
If you receive such a message:
- Do NOT respond.
- Do NOT click any links.
- Do NOT send sensitive information.
