Cumberland County School has announced exciting news for 7th grade students at Brown, Martin, Pleasant Hill and South Cumberland and their families. Cumberland County has been awarded the GEAR UP TN 4.0 grant, which will provide valuable support for these students—continuing through high school and into their first year of college, trade school, military service, or any other post-secondary path they choose.
GEAR UP stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs. The goal is to ensure our students are prepared for life after high school by providing college and career exploration, guidance, and opportunities.
Starting in the 2025-26 school year, GEAR UP will expand to include a new 7th-grade class while continuing to support 8th graders and CCHS seniors. The grant will conclude in 2030, when this first cohort enters post-secondary education.
