Morgan County Sheriff Wayne Potter Passes Away After Cancer Battle, Service and Visitation Saturday Morning, Feb. 22, 2025 at Wartburg Central High School Gym

After a courageous battle with cancer, Morgan County Sheriff Wayne Potter passed away early Tuesday morning (February 18, 2025) surrounded by his loving family.  He was 50.

As Sheriff of Morgan County with nearly 30 years of service in law enforcement, Wayne Potter embodied the very essence of public service.

To his family, Sheriff Potter was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend, whose love, guidance, and support enriched their lives beyond measure.

To his friends, staff and colleagues, he was a trusted ally, a loyal companion, and a shining example of integrity, compassion, and leadership.

The family will welcome friends and the community on Saturday February 22, 2025 from 11am until 2pm at the Wartburg Central High School, with the funeral service to begin at 2pm. Interment will follow at the Armes Chapel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery at 4pm. .
