A section of I-40 between Tennessee and North Carolina is slated to partially reopen this Saturday (March 1, 2025). The Tennessee Department of Transportation says there will be only one lane in each direction from MM 446 in Tennessee to MM 7 in North Carolina. The speed limit will be lowered to 40 mph in Tennessee and 35 mph in North Carolina through narrow lanes. Traffic more than 8.5 ft in width is not allowed. People should be prepared for slowed or stopped traffic. This continues to be an active work zone. This portion of interstate was washed out in several places in the Hurricane Helene floods last September and it’s unclear how long it will take to fully repair the eastbound lanes.
