Mississippi Man Flees Police In Stolen U-Haul, Caught in Oliver Springs, Tennessee

A man driving a stolen U-Haul truck led authorities on a chase in Roane County over the weekend.  It began Saturday afternoon when a Flock camera system alerted that the stolen U-Haul had enter the Town of Oliver Springs. Officers attempted to stop the U-Haul and say 40-year-old Cameron Simpson, of Gulfport, Mississippi, failed to yield.  Simpson reportedly led authorities on a pursuit that ended up near the Emory River where the U-Haul left the roadway.  Simpson then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, eventually entering the Little Emory River. A K9 track was initiated and shortly after Simpson was captured as he attempted to hide inside a residence.  Simpson was charged with Evading Arrest, Resisting Arrest, Reckless Endangerment, Reckless Driving, and active warrants in Roane County.

Oliver Springs Police Chief David Laxton acknowledged his team’s swift action and use of modern technology and also thanked the Roane County Sheriff’s Office, Rockwood Police Department, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol for their assistance in the search and apprehension of the suspect.  (Photos courtesy Oliver Springs PD.)
