A Crossville man has lost hundreds of dollars in an online contest scam.  The victim contacted the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday (3/12/25) and reported that a week prior he had been messaged on Facebook stating that he was the winner of an online contest. The prize was supposed to be a Range Rover vehicle. The victim was contacted by someone using the name of  “Kevin Costner” who informed him that he would need to speak with “Mark Robinson.”  The victim spoke with the alleged “Mark Robinson” on a Cellular Phone Application known as “WhatsApp.”  The victim was then instructed to purchase several Apple Cards and send them to the scammer. In total the victim believes that he sent around $185 to $215. The victim was also instructed to give the scammers $500 more in order for the vehicle to be released to him, which he apparently did not do.  Deputy Jacob Moore advised the victim to have no further contact with the scammers and to keep any and all digital evidence/information on the matter.
