The U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Tennessee Department of Health are dropping about 400,000 rabies vaccine baits in East Tennessee this April. The baits will be distributed by plane, helicopter and ground vehicles to prevent rabies in wildlife and help protect pets and humans. Most of the counties where the baits will be dropped in Tennessee are those that border Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia. People should leave the baits alone and do not handle them. The baits are safe for pets and cannot spread rabies.
