Tennessee’s Storm Death Toll Rises to Five

Tennessee Emergency Management Agency director Patrick Sheehan said Thursday night that there have been at least five weather-related fatalities in the state. The death toll includes one fatality each in Carroll, McNairy and Obion Counties,  and two in Fayette County.

As of 4pm Thursday (4/3/2025), the National Weather Service had issued over 70 severe thunderstorm warnings, over 50 tornado warnings, with seven of those having reported and observed tornadoes and damage, and 21 flash flood warnings.

The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency reports that in parts of West and Middle Tennessee some areas saw 3-5” of rain in an 18 hour period, with several areas nearing 7”.  Those regions were facing another 3-4” of rain on Thursday and potentially looking at an additional 5-7” of precipitation on Saturday.

Governor Bill Lee’s Emergency Declaration request was approved to provide emergency protective measures (Category B), limited to direct federal assistance, under the Public Assistance program at 75 percent.
