The Mocs are champions! UT-Chattanooga competed in this year’s National Invitational Tournament for Men’s basketball and they ran the gauntlet. Going into this years NIT as a 5 seed the Mocs upset #4 Middle Tennessee State, #1 Dayton, #3 Bradley, and #5 Loyola Chicago on their way to play #1 UC Irvine in the finals in Indianapolis.
It took overtime to decide the NIT between the Mocs and the Anteaters but in the end the trophy is going to McCallie Avenue as Chattanooga defeats UC Irvine 85-84. Four players led Chattanooga in scoring with Collin Mulholland and Trey Bonham scoring 19 points each while Honor Huff and Garrison Keeslar scored 14 points each.
This is The Mocs first NIT Championship in school history and the best post season run since Chattanooga went to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament in 1997.
