The Tennessee House has passed a bill that would effectively ban the sale of THCA, a popular hemp-derived product. The bill, led by Rep. William Lamberth (R-Portland), shifts regulation from the Department of Agriculture to the Alcoholic Beverage Commission. An amendment by Rep. Mark Cochran (R-Englewood) prohibits the sale of hemp products with total or theoretical THC content over 0.3%—a threshold that includes most THCA products. The Tennessee Growers Coalition criticized the amendment, saying it “disregards” months of collaboration with lawmakers. Hemp businesses warn the ban could devastate their industry. A similar attempt to restrict THCA was blocked by a court last year. The Senate must now approve the bill before it goes to Governor Bill Lee.
