On April 17th, a Crossville woman reported to authorities that she had met a man calling himself Mark Walker on the dating app “OK Cupid” about a month ago. He initially asked her for money but she refused to do so. She later reconnected with him through WhatsApp, where he claimed to be working on Texas oil rigs and asked for help transferring money. She said she moved about $26,000 before growing suspicious of potential money laundering. She’s since cut off contact, and says her accounts remain secure. Authorities are investigating, but the man’s real identity remains unknown. Officials remind residents to be cautious when interacting with people online and never to transfer money on someone else’s behalf.
