Multiple agencies responded to a cave rescue over the weekend in White County. The call went out shortly before 11 am Saturday for a subject who was unable to walk out of Blue Spring Cave, which is a privately owned and gated cave in Sparta. The victim is a Nashville man and a Vanderbilt student who had entered the extensive cave system with a group of students Friday afternoon. He fell ill about 3 miles inside the cave and was too weak to exit on his own. He received medical treatment from White County EMS. Members of all responding agencies worked tirelessly for nearly 9 hours to get the man and members of his party safely out of the cave by around 7:30pm Saturday.
