TBI Agents Investigating After Kentucky Police Officer Fires Shots in Campbell County, TN

TBI agents are investigating the circumstances leading to a shooting involving a Kentucky police officer Sunday afternoon in Campbell County, Tennessee.

Preliminary information indicates that just after 1 p.m., an officer with the Williamsburg Police Department in Kentucky attempted to stop a speeding motorcycle on Interstate 75 South and continued to follow the motorcycle into Tennessee.

The motorcycle reportedly made an abrupt stop near mile marker 158 and the Kentucky officer pulled in behind it. According to reports, the motorcycle driver backed into the officer’s vehicle and then began driving north in the southbound lane of traffic. The Williamsburg police officer fired shots. The motorcycle continued to drive away and later crashed in Anderson County.  The motorcycle driver was taken to an area hospital.

It’s not clear if the motorcycle driver was shot.

The THP is investigating the crash.
