According to arrest affidavits 41-year-old Byron Dean Childers was shouting about demons as he walked down the street of his Columbia, Tennessee neighborhood Saturday afternoon. When he came upon 46-year-old John Bidle, who was standing outside of his home, Childers shouted “Demon from hell” and fatally shot Bidle.  Childers assaulted Bidle’s wife who ran to her husband’s side.

When 51-year-old Stacie Wright opened her front door to see what was happening, Childers walked toward Wright and fatally shot her multiple times.

An icecream truck driver said he saw Childers with an assault rifle and a gun right before his truck was fired upon. The driver was hit in the hip.

At some point an off-duty police officer was driving toward the scene when Childers jumped in the officer’s car, punched the cop in the face and grabbed the steering wheel.  As the officer fought back, Childers ran away. He was later caught by Columbia Police.

Childers is being held without bond and his charged include two counts of first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, aggravated assault, simple assault, carjacking,  and use of a firearm in a dangerous felony.  He is due in court on June 18.
