Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the man who was mistakenly deported to El Salvador, is back in the U.S. after 3 months. Abrego Garcia appeared in a Nashville federal court on Friday.
U.S. Attorney Pam Bondi said that on May 21st, a grand jury in Middle Tennessee returned a sealed indictment charging Abrego Garcia with alien smuggling and conspiracy to commit alien smuggling. Bondi said Abrego Garcia was returned to face these charges which stem from a 2022 traffic stop in Tennessee. When he was pulled over there were nine passengers who did not have identification or luggage. At the time Abrego Garcia was not detained or charged with a crime.
Garcia will be held in custody until his next court date on June 13th.
