Rhea County Sheriff’s Department Press Release:
RHEA COUNTY, TN – On Tuesday June 17th, 2025, the Rhea County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, successfully recovered a submerged vehicle from the Blythe’s Ferry Boat Ramp area following multiple calls and concerns from the public.
The vehicle, which had been submerged near the boat ramp, was originally involved in a crash during the winter of 2018, where it was confirmed that the complainant who was the driver was the only occupant. Fortunately, the incident resulted in no injuries.
At the time, due to environmental and technical challenges, the vehicle was deemed unrecoverable and remained underwater.
After receiving repeated concerns from citizens regarding the visible submerged vehicle, the Rhea County Sheriff’s Office coordinated with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Underwater Recovery Team to have the vehicle safely removed.
Sheriff Mike Neal stated, “We are thankful to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance and professionalism. This operation demonstrates the importance of community involvement and interagency cooperation in maintaining public safety and environmental stewardship.”
The vehicle has been successfully removed and poses no further concern. There is no indication of foul play, and the case remains closed. (Photo courtesy Rhea County Sheriff’s Department)
