The Tennessee Department of Transportation said Thursday that there were no fatalities or major injuries reported in Wednesday’s flood and rockslides on a section of I-40 near the Tennessee/North Carolina border.
At least four rockslides shut down I-40 in both directions in the area of mile marker 450 in Cocke County. Numerous passenger vehicles and semi-trucks were stranded in the floods but no one was seriously hurt.
Officials hope to re-open the interstate in 2 weeks and motorists will be directed to use the same detours that were used during Hurricane Helene.
