A Memphis high school football player has died after collapsing during summer practice in extreme heat. Sixteen-year-old Joshua Henderson, a student at Bolton High in Shelby County, passed away last Saturday (July 26, 2025), nearly three weeks after suffering a severe heat stroke during drills. The CDC estimates that up to 1300 people die annually from heat stroke. In 2023 the U.S. saw a record year with 2302 heat related deaths.
