It was a record breaking day in Knoxville as the 22nd ranked Tennessee Volunteers hosted in state foe East Tennessee State for the second game of the season. The Volunteers set a new school record for most points scored in a game. The old record was 71 scored against Kent State in 2024, on Saturday the Vols broke that by scoring 72 in their victory over East Tennessee State University. The final ended up being 72-17 over the Buccaneers from Johnson City.
All four of Tennessee’s quarterbacks seen the field of play with Joey Aguilar starting the contest. Aguilar threw 2 touchdowns with 288 yards. Jake Merklinger also threw two touchdowns with 188 yards. Nashville Freshman George MacIntyre went 6/7 and threw 52 yards. Another Freshman, fourth string quarterback, Mason Phillips didn’t attempt a pass but he ran twice for 18 yards. Duke transfer running back Star Thomas ran for the most yards and touchdowns of all the backs with 69 yards and 3 touchdowns.
