The Fentress County Sheriff’s Office says a suspect has been charged in the death of Stephen Joe Hicks, who was found deceased Wednesday evening (September 24, 2025) on Old Turnpike Road. Police say Mr. Hicks died from injuries sustained during an altercation. A witness at the scene identified Phillip Hope as the suspect involved and he was later located at a residence on Gatewood Trail. The weapon believed to have been used in the assault was also recovered. Mr. Hope is currently being held on charges of criminal homicide. The TBI is assisting in the investigation.
