As a partial resolution in the Reckless Endangerment case against him, Christopher Stanford has resigned as District Attorney for the 31st Judicial District, comprised of Warren and Van Buren counties, effective October 31st (2025). He is currently under indictment in DeKalb County and the charge stems from an incident last November (2024) when DA Stanford showed up on a street in Smithville during a police chase of a homicide suspect wanted in Warren County. Stanford is accused of firing shots at the suspect’s vehicle but one bullet reportedly went into a home, nearly hitting a child. Fortunately, no one inside the house was hurt. Stanford’s trial date currently set for January 7, 2026 in DeKalb County will be continued to a future date by order to be entered by Judge Bray.
