Sheriff Casey Cox and the entire staff of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office proudly congratulate Deputy Shawn Aytes on being awarded Officer of the Year by the Tennessee Highway Safety Office.
The Sheriff’s Office reports that Deputy Aytes recently completed the Emergency Medical Responders (EMR) program — an intensive course requiring extensive study, hands-on training, and practical application. What makes this accomplishment especially significant is that he completed the program while enduring the tragic loss of his 19-year-old son. He missed only one day of training and returned immediately to finish the course.
Deputy Aytes’ resilience and dedication during such an unimaginable hardship reflect great credit upon himself and the Sheriff’s Office. His commitment to his duty, his training, and the community is deeply respected by all of us.
The Sheriff’s Office invites the community to join them in congratulating Deputy Shawn Aytes THSO Officer of the Year, whose example honors the badge and those he serves.
