By Ronni Chase Jan 7, 2026 | 10:57 PM

The Putnam County School System, in partnership with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, has implemented metal detectors at Monterey High School as the first step in a multi-week pilot. After a few weeks at Monterey High School, the school system plans to pilot the metal detectors at Upperman High School and Cookeville High School for trial periods. During the pilot phase, PCSS and the PCSO are working on the feasibility of permanent implementation, traffic flow, and monitoring to identify any necessary adjustments before making a final decision to implement metal detectors at each school.
