Press Release:
INCLEMENT WEATHER ADVISORY – CUMBERLAND COUNTY
The ice and snow from yesterday has melted due to rising temperatures. However, rain will continue through this afternoon, and temperatures are expected to drop quickly and drastically below freezing this evening and tomorrow.
As temperatures fall, standing water and rain will freeze rapidly, creating extremely slick and dangerous road conditions across Cumberland County.
Please avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.
If you must be on the road, slow down, increase following distance, and watch out for fallen trees & power lines. Ice covered roads are almost impossible to drive on safely.
Additionally, the incoming extreme cold poses a serious risk if power outages occur. Citizens are encouraged to:
- Ensure you have adequate heat sources
- Charge phones and devices
- Have blankets, food, and emergency supplies ready
Check on your neighbors, especially the elderly, those living alone, or anyone with medical needs, to ensure they are safe and prepared.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office will be out alongside our fire department, EMA, EMS, rescue squad, E911 and highway department, actively monitoring conditions and assisting anyone who may need help during this weather event.
Stay safe!
