Traffic was tied up on both the east and westbound lanes of I-40 Sunday night following two separate crashes on Monterey Mountain in Putnam County. The first multi-vehicle crash happened just before 8pm near the eastbound 294 mile marker, leaving the left shoulder blocked. The second crash happened just after 8pm at the westbound 296 mile marker. That crash blocked all the westbound lanes, with only the left and right shoulders open. TDOT showed the wrecks were still impacting traffic at 11pm Sunday.
