The County Commission on Tuesday voted unanimously to set a new hard limit for beer permits. The resolution establishes a minimum distance of 100 feet between beer retailers and places of public gathering, such as churches and schools. This replaces a much older 2000 foot rule that, over the years, had many exceptions granted for shorter distances. The Commission and the Beer Board still retain the authority to object to the sale or storage of beer if they feel a specific location isn’t a good fit for the community, even if it meets that 100-foot requirement.
